Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya
About
The Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya (formerly known as The Golf Club at Playacar) offers the perfect combination of natural beauty and the work of man. This magnificient golf course, carved out of the dense Mayan Jungle is only a few hundred yards away from the crystal-clear, turquoise ocean and the fine white sands of the Mexican Caribbean Sea.
The intelligent architectural design of the golf course has converted Playa del Carmen into one of the most popular tourism destinations in all of Mexico.

Things to know
Overall enjoyable day. Tight course. Bring extra balls. Jungle comes up fast.
Greens are small. Thin grass and soft.
We had A 7:42 tee time. Arrived at 6:50. thinking we would be able to hit a few on the range.
The line up to pay was longer than expected.
By the time we got our clubs and cart it was about 7:35. No time for the range or putting.
Score cards were paper photo copies. No course layout on the card or on any hole. Hitting blind too often. Complimentary beer ware and sandwiches on the course and beverage after the game with a reasonable buffet lunch.
I would try other courses before heading back to this one.
A challenging course!
This course was in good conditions and played long. You need to bring your “A” game, and hit it straight to post a decent score!
Nice course But..
The Hard Rock is a nice course but I don’t think it’s worth $250 especially if you don’t drink. The all inclusive drinks and meals is great, but I would be fine paying $105 GolfNow for the course without the all inclusive deal. The course itself was good but nothing to make me say wow Most of the challenges come with your approach shots with rocks-boulders around the greens which were smooth and putted true. Thank God for GolfNow..
Good course but….
Hard Rock value for the money is only good when you can get a ‘Hot Deal’ via GN. If you are paying the regular price, it is not worth it. I can’t see why all of the courses in the area want $150+ for a round of golf. If they lowered the green fees; they would get way more play and earn more dollars as the fixed cost is already there. Locals only pay about $35 per round.
You have to make a full day of it. Arrive well before your tee time. Take advantage of the all inclusive breakfast,, go hit some balls and then get lunch on the course & dinner before they close. All the drinks are included. I must say that the beverage people are awesome. One for each nine and you get to see them often. You can order your snacks or sandwiches, burgers from them and it will arrive within the next few holes. This was the best service so far.
Golf now is the best!
Golf course was challenging but so much fun! Well maintained. Golf carts a little slow but ok. Great experience!
No for me.
I go a reasonable GN deal to play here, and got paired up with a couple locals who were fun to play with. Was it worth it? Maybe. Definitely not worth the rack rack of $250. Here’s my breakdown.
Pros:
-F&B are included with the greens fees. However I hope you like Corona, Popcorn, Chips, or Soda. That’s all you’re gonna get.
-playing in the jungle is fun & novel, there’s cenotes as hazards, animals everywhere, and the surroundings are stunning.
Cons:
-Pace of play was awful. 5.5 hour round, and play was extraordinarily light. It was cart path only, which is fine, but I could have seen us push 6 hours easily.
-Layout is too tight, especially for a resort course. Any offline strike… adios pelota, your ball is now in the jungle. Bring balls you’re willing to loose.
-Layout is also boring, greens are tiny, lots of weird doglegs. There’s not a hole I remember besides 18, which plays like none of the other holes. It feels like a bootleg Pete Dye course without any of the nuance that makes his courses brilliant.
I recommend
It is a little pricey but not too bad and It was cheaper to book thru GN and it was still all inclusive.
The course was in good shape except for the greens which were recently punched problem was they didn’t use enough sand to cover and the greens were really bumpy. Rental clubs ehh but they are rentals. I have played here before and will play again. Staff food and carts were all good.
Why save the labor? Green complex’s could be GREAT!
Not a bad track, last minute and needed rental clubs. I would say the layout is good with the exception of #15, they blew up what looked like a good par 5 and stuck in a stupid par four that doesn’t fit. If they spent a little more time to expand the greens back to their original design I would give it a strong 4.2 our if five.
Could be “Great” was just good.
Boles last minute through golf now, in PDC with my wife and she wanted a day to do nothing. Check in was easy, only issue I had was they charged me in US currency when my CC was set to pay in pesos.
The course it’s self was good, but with out any type of map (course guide) and only a copy paper score card it was hard to see where to hit it. I rented clubs (5-hcp) so they were okay Calloway Epic woods and iron. No back to the course: The layout was great. Most of the tee boxes were flat and well taken care of, the fairways were really good, not much mud following a hard rain the day before. The green an are a different story, you can tell the green keeper is cutting down on labor, the greens are SHRINKING, was you read that correctly. If you play it be prepared for some small greens that at one time might have been awesome.
The fee included all the food and drink you wanted, the cheese burger and vodka tonic following the round really hit the spot. Overall I would rate it 3.5 out of 5.
Best course closest to Playa del Carmen
I have played this course many times as it is conveniently located within Playacar and the conditions were better than average this time. The greens are in the best condition that I have seen however a little inconsistent. Tip is they don't break as much as you would think.
The beer selection has varied and this time only Corona and Pacifico were available.
The all inclusive benefits are nice, especially if you are not staying in an all inclusive resort. I like to arrive early, have some breakfast, hit a few balls at the range and then tee off. They will deliver a burger/hot dog/sandwich to you on the back nine.
The course is quite challenging with a great layout. For every 100 yards of fairway there are 200 yards of jungle - so keep it in play.
Pace of play was 4.5 hours with a brief stop for 15 mins during an isolated rain shower.
The staff are always friendly and accommodating.
I will play again however I stick to the Hot Deals for the best value.
Hard rock GC Playa
I played here with my son to celebrate his 18th birthday.
Good challenging layout with fairways in good conditions. Greens were wet with lots of ball marks. Was disappointed there was no hole close to the ocean or with Ocean view. Main issue was slow pace of play as most of people playing are tourists.
Round of golf included food and drinks, that made up for slow pace of play as we had more opportunities to eat and drink. Food staff delivered food to our cart and drinks cart met us every few holes.
